Why Symptom Logging with Wearables?

Symptom logging with wearables leads to preventative, personalized cardiac care.

Symptom logging can help patients and physicians better understand cardiac symptoms over a long period of time. Here are some benefits of symptom logging:

  • Long term monitoring vs Short term office visit

    • Doctors get ongoing data about a patient’s symptoms tracked over weeks and months instead of days.

  • Identify hidden patterns and trends

    • Symptom logging can be used to create a personalized and holistic view of a patient’s cardiac health by revealing patterns over time.

  • Patients in remote communities

    • Symptom logging can be particularly useful for patients living in remote communities, who may have reduced mobility or limited access to transportation, and for those maintaining a stable heart condition.

Background/Problem

Today, patients are spending a long time for in-person clinic visits.

Today, when a patient is experiencing a symptom, they either keep track of it on their phone though personal notes or are made to fill a form on arrival at the hospital.

This means, the doctor is only made aware of the symptoms once the patients conduct an in-person visit. There is an opportunity to minimize the time patients spend at hospitals.

Approach

Creating a symptom logging experience with SKIIN garment and app.

Through multiple iterations, concepts and wireframes, I’ve explored different ways to fill out the symptom logging form. Each has its own pros and cons, so it was important to get User Research to help validate these through user testing feedback sessions and make a data-driven and research-backed decision.

Outcome 1

Input Manual Symptoms

The feedback received after the first testing was to give users the option to input their own symptoms which may not have been present on the provided list of options.

Outcome 2

Highlight Multiple Symptoms

The user is given the option to highlight multiple symptoms instead of just one. Users reported that they could have experienced multiple symptoms
