Why events and hospitality?

International tourism in Ghana is growing rapidly.

Total consumer spending on restaurants & hotels in Ghana is forecast to grow by 40% ($2.7B in ‘22 to from $3.7B in 2025). This growth in the Ghanaian hospitality business is being fueled by a rise in international tourist spend. There is an opportunity to connect people to local events and hospitality businesses in Accra, Ghana.

Background

Today, local event discovery in Accra is largely organic.

Locals and tourists find out about cool music and food events through:

  1. Organic social media posts displaying event posters

  2. Word-of-mouth (in-person, private messaging apps)

  3. Find out about events too late!

Problem

Profile format makes it difficult for a first time visitor to easily become a customer

  1. ‼️Phone number for reservations is not clickable. Cannot copy and paste either.

  2. ‼️Communicated hours but there is no more room for the address.

  3. ‼️Use posts to advertise single events. A person has to be a follower to see this. There is no shareable event list.

  4. ‼️No complete event list to help prospective visitors understand all event opportunities

  5. ‼️Single link requirement makes it difficult to link to multiple pieces of trusted press coverage and reviews

  6. ‼️No ‘Link In Bio’ because bloombargh.com.gh is stale. Understandable because websites are expensive and difficult to maintain.

Approach

Creating a one-page microsite solution for restaurants.

I explored a variety of different ways to display the information on widgets, trying out single-row card carousels, list views, stacked card widgets, and more. I liked a version of the single-row card carousel as an option to test against the more obvious stacked card widgets, but was constrained by engineering resources, and our tight timeline.

Here’s a look at some of the versions along the way:

Outcome 1

Reserve a table.

Making a reservation has never been easier. No more waiting on hold or searching for the restaurant's website - Marune provides a direct link to the restaurant's reservation page, so you can quickly and easily secure your table.

Outcome 2

Find restaurant directions.

Easily locate the restaurant with our direct link to Google Maps. No more confusing directions or wrong turns. Just click and go!

Outcome 3

Discover events at a glance.

Discover all the events a restaurant has to offer in one place. No more searching through countless social media posts or websites to find out what's going on.
